8 Ways To Motivate Yourself

I believe that everyone can agree how difficult it can be to get up and go workout sometimes. Whether you hit the gym everyday, or are trying to create a healthier lifestyle, all of us need a little push sometimes (or a big one). Here I have a list of ways that I have found helpful for myself when trying to get up and go workout!

1. START OUT SMALL

When trying to develop a new lifestyle, the one mistake you can easily make is being completely unrealistic. In doing so, you can fail at what you wanted to accomplish which will turn you away from your goals. Start out with a short, easy workout and gradually increase the difficulty everyday. If you want to start working out regularly and are unable to do a single pushup on the first day, don't get discouraged! Do one on the first day, two on the next. Whatever you do, don't put yourself down for not being able to do something that is unrealistic.

2. SET A SCHEDULE

Building on the unrealistic aspect, make sure that you create a schedule for yourself that you know you will be able to stick to with no excuses. If you know that you have an incredibly busy day 4 out of 7 times a week, don't push yourself to go to the gym every single day. Remember that it is okay to start out small!

3. DO IT FOR YOURSELF

A huge factor when it comes to motivating yourself and changing your lifestyle habits is that you should be doing it for yourself. Don't go to the gym to impress a boy or look hot for someone else. If you want to create a healthy routine, do it for yourself! Self love is so much more important than anything else, and if you want to change something about yourself, then do it without factoring in what other people think of you. Never get discouraged because you compare yourself to other people, but instead stay positive and motivated by looking at your progress and how far you've come.

4. USE IT AS AN OUTLET

The time that you spend working out, is all about you. Motivate yourself to get up and go for a run by using it as an outlet. If you are angry or stressed used it to relieve your emotions and forget about all the negative things going on in your life. Working off stress makes you feel much better and will definitely help you take a deep breath and calm down!

5. GRAB A PARTNER

If you find yourself getting lazy and unmotivated, grab a partner! Use a friend to help motivate you and work with you. If you workout with someone you can easily relate to each other and do your best to encourage one another.

6. SET GOALS

Setting goals is a HUGE factor in changing something in your life. If you have something to work towards, you will find yourself working much harder. Set realistic goals for yourself and slowly accomplish them day by day. Take it slow if you need to, and enjoy the feeling of checking something off your metaphorical gym to-do list.

7. REWARD YOURSELF

With setting goals, remember to reward yourself after reaching them! This will push you further and make you crave the feeling of the reward again. Whatever your reward may be, remember that you deserve it! And never forget that rest days are 100% deserved!

8. HAVE FUN

The most important thing when trying to workout is having FUN! Never look at your workout as a chore. Instead, make it something that you can look forward to at the end of a long day. Personally, when I go for a run after a long time my mind goes to a happy place and I enjoy my workout. The feeling of getting a good sweat on never gets old; and even if you don't agree with that now, I'm sure you will after accomplishing some of your goals and having a positive outlook!
